Pausing on his way, in a more tranquil suite of the Magic Theatre there emerged the pastel-coloured shadow-plays that he named after their Chinese inspirations: Píyǐngxí. Lightness and weight are abolished in the labyrinth of their perspective - and with them, too, the weight of the revelation »that we are not so securely at home in the interpreted world«. A revelation that surely none can avoid who longs with sufficient passion to know how things appear to us. If we yearn to pull aside the veil and to lose the transparent blur of that which makes us visible and makes us into a gaze. And although nothing is able to quench this yearning, a gesture of picking a flower lifts us beyond this yawning abyss from which we are so adept at protecting ourselves.
